We Are Truck Drivers

At long last! A company owned by drivers, run by drivers!

  • I am a truck driver
  • Our Owner is a Truck Driver
  • Our Operations Manager is a Truck Driver
  • Our dispatchers are Truck Drivers
  • Our Recruiters are Truck Drivers
  • Our Terminal Managers, you guessed it… Truck Drivers

Accounting and payroll staff?

Nah, we’re not that crazy, they are all accounting professionals.

  • We are not owned by an investment group hoping to turn a huge profit and move on to a new venture.
  • We are not owned by Yuppies that don’t know the difference between a Jake brake and a trolley brake.
  • We actually work for a living.

What I am telling you is that Puryear may be one of the last companies out there, completely owned and operated by Truck Drivers.

Why is this important to you? Because we know your job.

A Company For Drivers, By Drivers

We know all the things you deal with on a daily basis. Traffic, loading, unloading, impossible schedules, upset customers, loading facilities that don’t care how long you wait. DOT regulations, hours of service, maintenance issues, downtime, waiting for loads.

Trust me, we have all actually been in your shoes.  We know because we’ve done it.  Other companies may have managers that think they understand (and they honestly believe it).

But we have lived it.  We have been outside in the sweltering heat and the freezing cold, driving in terrible weather conditions in order to deliver our products on someone else’s timeline.

We have

  • Showered in truck stops
  • Eaten truck stop food
  • Lived on canned foods, crackers, snack cakes (it shows), and tons of caffeine

So how does this help you? It helps you, the driver in many ways, let’s take them in order:

Our Recruiter is a Truck Driver

When you speak with our Recruiter, you can talk about our trucks, transmissions, loads, customers, lanes, or anything you want.  He knows because there is a good chance that he has pulled a load recently.  He speaks Trucker because he is a Trucker.  He cusses, swears, laughs, talks smack, etc. just like you probably do.  He won’t sugarcoat it for you. He won’t tell you what he thinks you want to hear; he tells it like it is.  We work hard here.  He will give you real answers, not theory and BS.  We are Truck Drivers.

Our Operations Manager is a Truck Driver

Just before writing this, I spoke with him on the phone.  For reference, it’s about 9:30 am. On a Thursday.  He just woke up because he didn’t get home until about 11 pm last night.  He pulled 2 loads yesterday.  We are Truck Drivers.

Our Dispatchers are Truck Drivers

On any given day they may have to hit the road in order to cover loads on a busy day.  Other employees will help man the phones and stay in communication with them for the big decisions. (Typically, we use the sales staff to help with the phones, because let’s face it, nobody really knows what they do).  In addition, because our Dispatchers are drivers when they plan your dispatch, it is the real world.  Not what some mapping program says.  They know all our lanes and what affects those lanes, such as heavy traffic times, how long it takes to offload, etc.  They are great at their jobs because they have real-world knowledge. (they also know how to smack talk with the best of ‘em).  We are Truck Drivers.

Our Terminal Managers are Truck Drivers

Remember earlier when I said our Operations Manager pulled loads yesterday?  Well, guess what?  So did our Terminal Managers.  In addition to their normal duties, they also pulled loads in order to satisfy our customer demands.  So, they also have real-world knowledge and experience as do all our staff. We are Truck Drivers.

As you can see, we are a team here. We all do the same thing, day in and day out. Drivers are the only reason we stay in business. If you want to work for and with a bunch of Truck Drivers, where your input is valued and you are treated like a teammate and not a number on a paycheck, this may be the place for you.

We work hard and take care of each other, and have a hell of a lot of fun while we do it. We are Truck Drivers.
