Puryear Tank Lines was established by Harold Puryear who began as a driver. Later he would be succeeded by Donnie Puryear and then later by his son Donnie who both drove prior to leading the company. Puryear Tank Lines has always been owned and operated by former drivers.
Drivers earn $75,000 to $125,000 per year.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED
- Must be at least 23 years of age
- 2+ years Class A driving experience (Tanker: 6 months liquid in last 3 years)
- Valid driver’s license in the state of residence
- Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
- Hazmat/Tanker endorsement
- TWIC (ability to get one if you do not already have one)
- Ability to pass a pre-hire driving test
- Ability to pass a D.O.T. level physical and drug/alcohol test
- Ability to pass the physical abilities test
Job Summary:
- The Truck Driver is responsible for driving a large tractor-trailer with safety as the first priority. Drivers must remain seated in the driver’s seat for extended periods. Vehicle inspections require the Driver to walk, stoop, and bend at the knees. (See physical abilities test requirements)
- Drivers must work a flexible schedule.
- Drivers serve as the company representative when delivering loads and interacting with customers, and are expected to treat customers with courtesy and respect at all times. Drivers interact with other Drivers on a minimal basis.

- Late model, well-maintained KWs and Petes
- Every truck is inspected and approved by our owner

Main Job Tasks:
- Operates vehicle in a manner that shows safety is a priority
- Drives defensively at all times to avoid accidents
- Visually and manually inspects the inside and outside of the vehicle
- Follows a structured checklist to document condition of the vehicle
- Documents improperly working items or damage to the vehicle
- Loads and unloads freight according to customer and freight handling specifications
- Secures cargo for transport
- Checks and protects freight during transport
- Maneuvers truck into loading or unloading positions, and checks that vehicle loading and unloading equipment is properly positioned
- Interacts with customers in a pleasant and friendly manner
- Responds to customer complaints and issues in a calm and professional manner
- Obtains receipts or signatures when required
- Checks and documents condition of vehicle at completion of transport
- Documents all mileage and service hours to abide by D.O.T. log regulations
- Describes vehicle condition to Maintenance personnel when repairs are needed
- Uses PeopleNet to communicate with Dispatch
- Completes all other daily responsibilities of a driving professional
- Attends safety meetings and training programs to remain up-to-date on safety policies and procedures, and ensure that reoccurring training is complete as required.
