CDL Driver Recruiter / Compliance Coordinator
The CDL Driver Recruiter/Compliance Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, screening, onboarding, and retaining qualified commercial drivers while supporting regulatory compliance efforts for a bulk hazmat tanker transportation company. This position plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, compliant, and professional driver workforce by ensuring hiring practices, qualification files, and operational documentation meet all applicable FMCSA, DOT, hazmat, and company requirements.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of balancing driver recruiting initiatives with administrative compliance responsibilities in a fast-paced transportation environment.
This is a full-time, in-person position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Driver Recruitment and Retention
- Recruit qualified CDL drivers through online job boards, social media, referrals, networking, recruiting events, and other sourcing methods.
- Conduct driver pre-screening interviews to evaluate qualifications, experience, safety history, and cultural fit.
- Review employment applications, MVRs, PSP reports, background checks, and prior employment verifications.
- Coordinate and schedule interviews, road tests, drug screens, physicals, and onboarding activities.
- Maintain consistent communication with applicants throughout the hiring process.
- Assist with driver orientation and onboarding procedures.
- Track recruiting metrics, including applicant flow, hiring trends, and retention data.
- Build and maintain relationships with driving schools, industry contacts, and recruiting partners.
- Support driver retention efforts through regular communication and follow-up with newly hired drivers.
Compliance Responsibilities
- Assist with maintaining Driver Qualification (DQ) files in accordance with FMCSA and DOT regulations.
- Monitor expiration dates for CDLs, medical certificates, TWIC cards, hazmat endorsements, annual reviews, and other required driver documentation.
- Assist with drug and alcohol testing program administration, including random testing coordination.
- Ensure driver onboarding documentation is complete and compliant prior to dispatch.
- Support internal audits and compliance reviews.
- Maintain accurate records related to driver training, certifications, and safety documentation.
- Assist with electronic filing and document retention procedures.
- Communicate compliance deficiencies to management and assist with corrective action follow-up.
- Support safety and compliance initiatives as directed by management.
Administrative and Operational Support
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee and applicant records.
- Assist with reporting and data entry within transportation management and compliance systems.
- Coordinate with operations, safety, and HR departments regarding driver staffing needs and compliance matters.
- Provide professional and timely communication with drivers, applicants, customers, and vendors.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of recruiting, transportation, safety, HR, or administrative experience preferred.
- Experience in trucking, logistics, bulk transportation, or hazmat operations strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of FMCSA, DOT, and hazmat regulations preferred.
- Familiarity with Driver Qualification files and driver onboarding processes preferred.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and transportation/compliance software systems.
- Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience recruiting CDL drivers.
- Experience working with ELD, safety, or compliance platforms.
- Understanding of tanker and hazardous materials transportation operations.
- Knowledge of DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements.

Physical Requirements
